COOLUM Meals on Wheels is hoping its commitment to a "feast for the senses” will attract more clients to the service.

A CMOW spokesperson said the organisation supported and enhanced the independence of the aged, younger people with disabilities and the primary carers of these clients by providing nutritious meals on a no-locked-in contract for less than $10 a meal.

"Our clients tell us that one of the most valued benefits of our service is the ability to remain in their homes and retain their independence,” the spokesperson said.

"CMOW provides its clients with freshly cooked healthy meals that are delivered four days a week with a smile and a quick chat.

"The meals consist of a soup, main course, dessert and a juice. In summer, we also offer the choice of a main meal salad. All our products are sourced supporting local businesses.”

CMOW has its own kitchen and employs a chef to prepare the meals.

As well as an administration team, it relies heavily on volunteers who undertake a variety of jobs including helping in the kitchen in the preparation and service of meals, delivering meals to clients and a variety of other duties.

If anyone in your family could benefit from the delivery of meals, contact the CMOW office in Santa Monica Ave between 8am and 2pm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday on 5446 1000.

To acknowledge the work that volunteers do at CMOW, the management committee hosted a barbecue last Tuesday during National Volunteers Week.

The barbecue was held with the support of the community and in particular Noel Mooney and the North Shore Realty staff, who offered financial support and the use of their marquees on the day, as well as Bud's Butcher for contributions towards the event.
