Sunshine Coast Council hopes to lure more national sporting teams to the region following the official opening of the upgraded Maroochydore Multi Sport Complex.
The Fisherman's Rd precinct now boasts a new field, lightning and 113 new car parks.
Mayor Mark Jamieson said the $2.7milion upgrade would set the Coast's reputation as a national sporting hub in stone.
"Sport is such an important part of our lives, we're a growing community and we want to have major sporting events here," Mr Jamieson said.
"Here we cater very well for AFL, netball and soccer and we have demonstrated that this year with the Melbourne Storm, also with visiting netball and AFL teams."
Mr Jamieson was hopeful more clubs would now follow suit in 2021.
"In time we'd love to see more spectator seating here so we can cater for bigger events," he said.
"We're out of space now for more fields, but we're going to continue upgrading what we do have.
The upgrades form part of Council's 2028 masterplan.
"This was once swamp land and cane fields and now we have four fields here," he said.
"We've now got more facilities for female sports as well with change room facilities so it's becoming a very contemporary sporting facility in a relatively short space of time."
