'Completely irreplaceable' diamond ring recovered

Jessica Hart didn't think she'd ever see her diamond engagement ring again.

JESSICA Hart didn't think she'd ever see her diamond engagement ring again.

After throwing pineapple scraps into her overgrown backyard, she realised the family heirloom was missing from her finger.

"I think my heart actually stopped when I didn't see it on my hand,” Mrs Hart said.

That is when she called in the big guns. Beau Da Pra of Lost Jewellery Recovery Sunshine Coast has an impressive history of finding valuables in the most unlikely circumstances.

Yet even Mr Da Pra thought he had met his match.

"Jessica sent me a picture of the back of her property, but I didn't realise the embankment was so steep,” he said.

"Normally I'm really confident but with the terrain in this one, it made it really difficult. I couldn't believe it when I found it.”

With "a stroke of luck”, Mr Da Pra located the ring with his trusty metal detector on Mrs Hart's wedding anniversary.

"I yelled out to her, 'I think I've found your ring', and just instantly I could hear in her voice that she couldn't believe it,” he said.

Mrs Hart said she was relieved to be reunited with the sentimental jewellery piece.

"It wasn't just the money value of the ring, it's because the main stone belonged to my parents,” she said.

"It was the diamond my dad proposed to my mum with, so it's extremely special because I don't have either of my parents with me any more. It was completely irreplaceable.”

Mr Da Pra has been coming to the rescue for those with lost items for three years and loves the thrill.

"The best part is seeing how the people respond when I've found their sentimental piece,” he said. "It's a real joy to be apart of that.”
