A Golden Beach father with a passion for motocross has been remembered fondly by his children after he suddenly died in his sleep.

Clinton Sleader, 47, died while he was at a motocross event in Glen Echo on October 3.

Mr Sleader’s daughter Morgan, 21, said her dad had always had a passion for motocross sports, sharing his love for the sport with his 17-year-old son Brock, who now rides competitively.

“(Dad) didn’t get to go as far as he wanted to, so he was as passionate about Brock and getting him as far as he has,” Ms Sleader said.

“He put every penny towards getting Brock what he needed and the training he wanted.

“Every single weekend was dedicated to motorbike riding.”

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help Mr Sleader’s dream of supporting his son with his motocross career.

“Brock is just recovering after a big accident about two months ago,” Ms Sleader said.

“The doctors say he can return to riding next year.

“Dad obviously put every cent towards (Brock’s return to motocross).

“It’s not a cheap sport but we’re not giving up on this, whatever we can get donated can help him continue with dad’s dream.”

Ms Sleader said her father’s ability to make people feel cared for was a real talent.

“He always made a big impact,” she said.

“You would get a message from him because he would just make an effort out of the blue to see how you were doing.

“He was always happy and joking around, having fun with everyone.”’

Mr Sleader was heavily involved in the motocross community, and even met his partner Melinda Williams through the sport.

“Her son Jett is into motocross, she’s a motocross mum and they had the exact same interests, like fishing and their kids,” Ms Sleader said.

Ms Sleader said the passing of her father was hard but she was relieved he “wasn’t in pain or scared” when he died.

“We haven’t got the autopsy results back, he was out at the track and he was asleep and he just stopped breathing,” she said.

“We do have a bit of family history and that’s the only thing we can put it down.”

Originally from Townsville, Ms Sleader said her dad has always put his family first and made sure they were always looked after.

“When we were younger he lived in Papua New Guinea working in the mines, he would make it his mission to make sure we had the best life,” she said.

“He took us on family holidays whenever he could and we would never be doing nothing, we were always going camping or fishing.

“He was always doing silly things and playing pranks.”

Rising Motorsports have started a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of $20,000 to help the Sleader family.
