Buddina IGA supermarket closed after Covid-19 scare in store

Queensland Health has confirmed a Sunshine Coast supermarket and Bunnings store have been added to a list of Covid-19 exposure sites.

A Sunshine Coast supermarket has been closed for deep cleaning after a person infectious with Covid-19 visited the store while a major hardware store has been added as an exposure site.

Queensland Health confirmed the IGA Buddina and Bunnings Maroochydore had been added to its list of contact tracing exposure sites.

The Buddina IGA supermarket has been temporarily closed, the store’s management confirmed on Tuesday morning.

The IGA spokesman did not provide any further details but said it was a “low risk” case.

However, a sign on the Point Cartwright Drive front door states:

“Please be aware a confirmed case of Covid-19 has occurred in store,” the sign reads.

“The store is undergoing a deep clean under guidance of the Department of Health.

“We will open after being given the all clear to do so. We apologise for the inconvenience.”


Queensland Health’s contact tracing listed the following as “low risk contacts”:

Sunday December, 5, IGA Buddina Supermarket at Point Cartwright Drive Buddina from 6am-6.45pm

Monday December 6, Bunnings Maroochydore at Dalton Drive Maroochydore 4.45am-9.15am

It comes after 873 people were given a Covid-19 vaccine on the Sunshine Coast on Monday, December 6, taking the total number of jabs administered across the region to 224,918.

To date, the Sunshine Coast region has had 133 cases of Covid-19.
