FOR the first time since the perils of WWII, Nambour will not be celebrating its annual show weekend.

But organisers of the Sunshine Coast Agricultural Show, which was due to be held from today, have promised the 2021 version will come back "bigger and better" with a rebranded display.

Society president Rowan O'Hara said particularly from a community sense, it was a sad decision to cancel.

"It's quite emotional, the first time since the world war, generations of people have always had the show," Mr O'Hara said.

"We will take a financial loss this year having bills to pay without an income.

"We rely heavily on people coming through the gates.

"But there are too many people involved to let the show die. We will come back bigger and better."

"It has given us a lot of time to clean up some things that you just don't get time to do," he said.

"We've been able to rebrand and there will be changes next year.

"I am confident the community will support us next year. The best thing about the show is that anyone and everyone can take part."

Former show society president and retired councillor Jenny McKay said it was a surreal feeling.

"It feels very strange. One of my granddaughters has celebrated eight of her nine birthdays at the show," she said.

"We will still give her a rural themed birthday but it will be different.

"The show been a staple for my family for four generations. So it is sad. We love it."
