The Sunshine Coast Aero Club is rallying around the family of Adam Heath, after he tragically died in a light plane crash in the Sunshine Coast hinterland in June.

Mr Heath and his co-pilot Rory Blanning of Caboolture died when their two seater Cessna-150 Aerobat plane crashed on a private property off Commissioners Flat Road at Peachester on June 23.

The pair had been on a private daytime flight, and authorities were called into search for the plane when it failed to return to the Sunshine Coast Airport in Marcoola.

The plane wreckage was found on June 23, about 8.50pm.

Australian Transport Safety Bureau is investigating to identify the cause of the incident.

An outpouring of grief from family and friends followed in the days after Mr Blanning, 30, and Mr Heath, 46, died.

Sunshine Coast Aero Club treasure Gerry Mussen said club members wanted to help the family of Mr Heath, who leaves behind his wife and three daughters.

Mr Mussen said the Heath family had recently relocated from Victoria to Maroochydore, and Mr Heath quickly joined the aero club.

He said the crash was a “terrible situation” for all involved but club members wanted to do something to help the Heath family during this difficult time.

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up for the Heath family.

“Although we operate as a business, initially we’re a club and the club is for its members,” Mr Mussen said.

“We’re trying to do our little bit in whatever little way we can.”

Mr Mussen said he hoped club members and others in the community would think about helping the Heath family.

The GoFundMe campaign has a goal of $50,000 to help continue paying school fees for Mr Heath’s three young children.

Mr Mussen said the club extended its sympathies to the family of Mr Blanning, but decided to not raise money for him as he has no dependants unlike Mr Heath’s young family.

He said club members would continue to help Mrs Heath, who laid her husband to rest on July 8.
