A $35m dollar live music venue which would become the region’s largest is coming to the Sunshine Coast.

Aura Hotel will be built in the heart of the Stockland Aura community, near Caloundra, and is the newest development announced by entertainment, construction and hospitality group Comiskey Group.

The group have developed many major music venues in southeast Queensland, including the Eaton’s Hill Hotel and the Sandstone Point Hotel.

The announcement comes after Comiskey Group announced Coochin Fields, a new 150ha outdoor festival development in Coochin Creek, in May, 2022.

Comiskey Group Director Rob Comiskey said in a statement the Moreton Bay region south of the Sunshine Coast had the largest entertainment offering and he felt it was “only natural” to expand.

“Aura sits just 10 minutes from our Coochin Fields site, so we’re excited to create a thriving epicentre of entertainment for the Sunshine Coast,” he said.

Comiskey Group Entertainment Director Jonathan (Jono) Jackson said the $35m development was a welcome addition to the region.

“We saw a gap in the market in terms of live music venues,” he said.

“The region’s ongoing population growth creates more demand for premium production opportunities locally.”

The venue will include indoor and outdoor dining areas, six bars, a gaming room and function spaces.

The project is estimated to be complete by late-2024.

It follows the group’s plans for a cellar door and pub experience in the Noosa hinterland after a lengthy approval process.

The Doonan – a $3m-$4m project was approved with almost 90 conditions in 2021.

The 225-person venue will feature 2000sq m of gardens and 400sq m of outdoor areas.
