The Bureau of Meteorology said the region averages about 11.4C for this time of year, but that these bursts are "typical".

Forecaster Peter Markworth said the frosty morning was caused by dry air pushed in from the southwest of the state.

"Expect these bursts to occur about twice a month. This is the second in this rapid drop of temps," Mr Markworth said.

"The region had some nice and cool south westerlies come in after the weekend trough moved through and cooled things down.

"Expect this cool change to stick around for at least a week, start to warm up on Saturday with double digit minimums."

Mr Markworth said the winds had picked up to about 15 knots and that mornings could be the coldest.

He said maximum temps would hover between 19C and 21C with sunny conditions expected throughout the day.
