A COLD snap is expected to hit the Sunshine Coast as a trough sweeps through the region in coming days, with minimum temperatures set to drop.

The Bureau of Meteorology reported on Monday that the above average temperatures the Coast felt in the first two weeks of June had been replaced with more "classic" June degrees.

Forecaster Shane Kennedy said temperatures would hover around the average June minimums for the coming days but were expected to drop "substantially" by Tuesday.

"We are expecting the trough to sweep through late on Sunday and turn offshore. Once that sweeps through, it will cool down considerably," Mr Kennedy said.

"A cold snap will follow with all the cool, dry air. It might come on Monday, but definitely Tuesday.

"Minimums will drop substantially to below 10C. Maximums will be below 20C."

Coastal showers dampened the region yesterday but the majority of rainfall totals were below 5mm and scattered across the Coast.

Mr Kennedy said showers remained a threat for today before the winds turned east later in the week.
