AN AUXILIARY firefighter is in hospital with a broken leg after being injured while helping to retrieve a vehicle at Cooroibah.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services acting area commander Geoff Hunter said he understood the Sunshine Coast man's leg was broken when a tow cable snapped while a vehicle was being winched on to a tow truck.

The incident occurred about 4.40pm Friday.

Meanwhile, he said no one was injured when a branch fell from a tree on to a rural fire truck that was working at Cooroibah in an unrelated incident.

He said the truck was damaged on the roof and windscreen.

Apart from those incidents, he said the only other injuries reported were cases of heat stress for a few firefighters.
