A Coast football club is building to kick off one of their biggest women's seasons after experiencing an “unbelievable” boom in numbers.

Maroochydore Football Club started female trials last week with about 50 players turning out for the opening trainings sessions.

Womens football coaching director Andy Pryce said the numbers were double what they had experienced the previous year.

“It was unbelievable and we’ve still had another 15 that couldn’t make it so our numbers are absolutely blown out and crazy,” Pryce said.

About 38 of the 50 were trialling for the premier women's and premier reserve sides with the remaining numbers looking to make the third division squad.

“And half of them (third division trialists) are new to the club,” Pryce said.

“We’ve got two more weeks of trials so who knows what’s going to come out of that and who’s going to turn up.”

Pryce put the boom in numbers down to a successful 2020 and the impending 2023 FIFA Womens World Cup.

The Swans took out the premier women, reserve women, U16 girls and U12 (1) girls premierships last year.

He expected this year’s women's competition as a whole to be as competitive as ever.

“Obviously, other clubs are trying to strengthen their tranks as well and we know of another club on coast here (Sunshine Coast Fire) that want to come in and play in our comp,” he said.
