Sunshine Coast hinterland cliff fall

A woman is in hospital after falling at least seven metres from a cliff in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

An RACQ LifeFlight Rescue spokeswoman said it was believed the woman, aged in her 40s, was walking with a friend at a popular waterfall when she slipped and plunged several metres before landing on a cliff ledge.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said paramedics were called to Mapleton Falls Rd on the morning of December 4 for the rescue, which took about two hours.

It is understood the woman was on a Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk trail.

The rescue chopper was called to assist just before 11am as part of the multi-agency effort to rescue the woman.

Due to the rough terrain, a critical care doctor and flight paramedic were winched down to the patient.

Paramedics were also on the ground assisting the injured walker.

At the scene, the medical team treated her for head and spinal injuries before she was secured into a stretcher and moved to a clearing.

She and the critical care doctor were then hoisted up into the helicopter.

The flight paramedic was also winched back to the aircraft.

The patient was flown to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
