THE clothes stayed mostly on at the Australian Sex Party's protest against A-Bay arrests in Noosa today.
About 15 people holding signs - some in swim togs - sat in front of the Noosa Police Beat on Hastings Street to vent their frustrations against the police crackdown on nudists at nearby Alexandria Bay in Noosa National Park.
Australian Sex Party secretary Robin Bristow, who sported the words: "Glen Elmes, kiss my arse” on his butt cheeks said the Noosa police had "gone feral” in their attempts to fine nudists on A-Bay.
"Noosa police are now out of control,” he said.
"What were the police thinking when they started hiding in bushes at A-Bay waiting to pounce on 80-year-old retirees swimming in the nude?”
He also called on Noosa Council and Tourism Noosa to get behind legalising A-Bay as an official clothing-optional beach.
Australian Sex Party Party Queensland president Mark McGovern it was sad that Queensland still had no clothing optional beaches.
"We are more than 40 years behind South Australia,” Dr McGovern said.
"Polls show that over 80% of Queenslanders favour the introduction of clothing-optional beaches.
"If appropriate signage was in place around a duly gazetted nude beach, there would be zero complaints from the public.”
Mr Bristow attempted to present himself to police after the protest, admitting to police that he, too, had been naked at A-Bay.
However, police refused to take action and advised him they would not do so unless he was actually caught committing an offence.
Dr McGovern said the party would take their fight to newly appointed State Police Minister Mark Ryan whom he hoped would "amend the wilful exposure provisions of the Act”.
"Let's bring Queensland into line with the rest of the country and into the 21st century,” he said.
Sunshine Coast police have been contacted for comment.
