TWO months after a pre-season with Canterbury, training alongside Josh Jackson and William Hopoate, Wyatt Reynolds will debut for a different Bulldogs outfit.
Reynolds, a grand final hero of the Sunshine Coast Falcons Colts premiership campaign, has signed with the Beerwah Bulldogs.
He was named in the Colts team of the season and Canterbury legend Steve Price came calling.
The prop forward played two trial games for the Dogs’ NSW Cup side and round one before breaking his hand.
While on paper going from an NRL system to “park” football is a step down, he doesn’t view it that way.
“I spoke to the ’Dogs about it and they thought it was a great idea. Better off playing park footy to keep our fitness up rather than have the year off,” Reynolds said.
“Unfortunately, I only lasted 17 minutes before breaking my hand, but it is all good now. I just want to play.
“This pre-season, I have learned more than I ever have in my career. But in retrospect, I didn’t achieve anything close to what I wanted to.
“But the year is not a write-off. Far from it.”
Reynolds said he was pumped to join Beerwah and be part of the rebuild.
“I’ve never played there, but heard great things about it, especially the atmosphere and the fans, too,” he said.
“They’ve given me an opportunity to get back into it. I honestly can’t wait for it.”
Beerwah’s new captain and coach Jordan Meads said if Wyatt remained at the club long-term, then they “hadn’t done their job properly”.
“He is a huge signing for us,” Meads said.
“It’s not often, maybe never been done, that an NRL-contracted player has joined Beerwah.”
