NETBALL: The waiting game is over for the Sunshine Coast Lightning who can at last return to training on Monday.

For months the girls have been forced to do road runs or cycling to stay fit from the extended lay-off, now their sessions will be tailored individually.

With two full months before the competition starts on August 1, the top four specialists have time on their sleeves.

Coach Kylee Byrne said the whole squad was thrilled with the latest announcement.

The only absentee missing from Monday’s restart will be goalkeeper Phumza Maweni who returned to native South Africa to be with her family.

“We finally have a date and can now work towards something,” Byrne said.

“There was a real sense of doubt, are we going ahead, or not, and when.

“Now we can tailor the girls’ training and they will come back really fit and strong to rip in.

“It’s all about transitioning them back to their netball movements.”

For Byrne, her first year as a Super Netball coach is already one she won’t forget however the delay has allowed her to fine tune her tactics.

“There are some tactical components of the game that we might not have had,” she said.

“We are all very excited to return.”
