A Sunshine Coast Council councillor has revealed a popular cafe and coffee shop have eyed expansion into an upcoming multimillion-dollar civic building in the heart of the new Maroochydore CBD.
The council is seeking hospitality tenants for a few commercial vacancies at the ground floor of its Sunshine Coast City Hall along First Ave, Maroochydore.
The nine-storey project is expected to cost $100m, after a blowout of $20 million, with work set to be completed at the end of the year.
The council had recently gone out to tender to fill the spots, and will now seek approval at an ordinary meeting on October 27 to advertise by way of the open market, not traditional tendering.
There are three vacancies available of boutique, medium and large size, with a total floor space of 362 sqm.
The larger space is earmarked for a high-quality, all-day food and beverage business.
Sunshine Coast Council councillor Joe Natoli revealed three particular businesses had expressed an interest in snapping up a space, including two small independent companies.
He said one was a cafe in Maroochydore while another was a coffee shop in Mooloolaba, and each were popular venues with strong customer bases.
“Any one of those would be fantastic,” he said.
Mr Natoli said he had no further details on the third possible buyer.
The councillor said it was a unique and attractive offer for any business, given they would be in a building with 800 workers and part of a growing CBD.
“It’s coming out off the ground,” he said.
He also noted existing hospitality retailers Giddy Geisha and Market Bistro were already booming in the area.
“It’s an exciting space to be in for retailers,” he said.
