Byron Bay has inspired some boutique developments coming to the Sunshine Coast this year with breweries, produce halls and new music venues on the cards.

The region’s entertainment offerings are in for a healthy boost with several developments planned including the Comiskey Group’s The Doonan and Big Audio’s expansion.

Brisbane developers are also progressing Barns Lane Farm at Coolum Beach where a large-scale produce hall and entertainment venue is envisioned.

A produce hall and entertainment venue is planned for a prime site at Coolum Beach.

Developers are awaiting Sunshine Coast Council approval for Barns Lane Farm – to feature breweries, restaurants and paddock to plate experiences.

The project is led by a trio from Brisbane on a block formerly slated for a Bunnings Warehouse.

It would also have a 26-room boutique hotel to cater for rural destination weddings and events.

Music lovers will soon be able to catch their favourite up and coming act in a new performance venue in Nambour.

Big Audio owner Phil Turvey is opening a live music venue at his Bury St warehouse which will include a large garden bar for acoustic performances and an indoor bar and entertainment area.

Mr Turvey said the venue, which would also offer healthy international cuisine options on its menu, was a chance to help boost the Nambour economy.

The project received a financial boost with a $53,368 federal government grant to help pay for renovations and 84 live acoustic lunchtime shows expected to begin early this year.

Doonan hotel

A leading Queensland publican is bringing a family friendly pub with a nursery-like interior to Doonan at the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

The Comiskey Group’s Rob Comiskey – of Sandstone Point and Eatons Hill successes – is starting construction at The Doonan, a family-friendly pub and cellar door.

The hotel developers purchased the 2ha Eumundi Noosa Road site 15 years ago but the project was stalled during the approval process.

The up to $4m project inspired by Byron Bay’s The Farm will feature substantial landscaping work with 2000sq m of gardens and up to 400sq m of outdoor areas where punters can kick a footy or a soccer ball.

It is expected to be completed in 2023.

Bli Bli Tavern

The long wait for the $20m Bli Bli Tavern is almost over with construction starting on the five-storey venue.

Developers Michael and Roz White are behind the much anticipated $20m Bli Bli Tavern which is set to open in one of the region’s fastest growing suburbs by mid-2022.

It will be operated by Sunshine Coast Hotels managing director Scott Armstrong in partnership with the Story Bridge Hotel owner Richard Deery.

Cube Developments expects to complete Nature by Cube, designed by Cottee Parker Architects, next year.

The off-plan sales included an enormous penthouse which sold for $7m.

Cube Developments director Scott Juniper said it would be home to some of the “most luxurious” apartments on the Sunshine Coast.
