Canada Spins Into Roller Figure Skating

A Victorian roller skating business is aiming to glide into the Sunshine Coast with pop-up events in July.

Rolla Bae, complete with a distinctive peach caravan, was created in 2019 and previously called Melbourne and Port Phillip home.

The roller skating business offers users skate hire and fun times at discos, skating on footpaths or private events.

Operations manager Amber Patterson, 34, took over from her sister who started the company and then moved to Canada.

In Melbourne the business worked with councils to entice people back to outdoor areas following Covid-19 lockdowns in the southern state.

“What I love about Rolla Bae is that encourages people to be out in the community,” Ms Patterson said.

“It’s a sunshine state of mind, it’s about being outside.”

When Ms Patterson moved to Queensland, she decided to bring the business with her.

“We’re hoping to establish the business up here because it’s so much better weather-wise,” she said.

The operations manager said she was on the hunt for good places on the Sunshine Coast to hold the pop-up events.

“We go wherever we can find a good location, if there’s good concrete and we can get the right permits,” she said.
