FORMER pet resort owner Sam Brown says her liquidated Coast business owes her and husband Jack $142,000 as she disputes figures used in a report to creditors.
Mrs Brown said a letter of demand she received last week over a $169,000 loan account she and Mr Brown had with the failed Sunshine Coast Pet Resort was not based on the company's Australian Taxation Office-lodged balance sheet.
She said liquidator Cameron Crichton, who issued the letter, was working from an MYOB file at the office.
"For years and years we have put into that business,” Mrs Brown said.
"Yes we took money out but at the end of the year it is all reconciled.”
She declined to comment when asked how she felt about Mr Crichton's comments that further investigation was needed to determine the feasibility of an insolvent trading claim against her and Mr Brown.
Figures she provided indicated the business had a total debt of more than $660,000 but Mr Crichton has not yet put a final figure on it.
She said four attempts to sell the business had fallen through in the two years leading up to last December's liquidation.
"I'm not denying that there were financial difficulties at all.
"It was a financial mess because obviously there were poor business decisions but there was also failed partnerships.”
Mrs Brown said her husband's massive heart attack on January 4, 2017, meant he needed a heart transplant.
She said looking after him while trying to manage the business and deal with her own health issues took their toll.
"He is totally and permanently disabled according to Centrelink and I'm his carer.
"I didn't hide it from anyone we were struggling.”
She said she had intended on clearing her debts by selling the business.
"I didn't have any intention of worrying too much about myself.
"I just needed to get out of it.”
She said her focus was on caring for her husband.
"He is my priority at the moment.”
