New brewery to breathe life into CBD’s ‘sacred’ site

A major rezoning of the Nambour CBD has tapped into a new market, with an alehouse and brewery to revive a heritage site.

A MAJOR rezoning of the Nambour CBD has tapped into a new market, with a new alehouse and brewery to revive a heritage-listed key site.

Surveyor Adam Tomlinson fell in love with craft beer on a US trip with his wife, and his home-brew passion developed into Stalwart Brewing Australia.

He's now set to realise another dream, having signed the lease on the former Club Hotel site on Currie St, Nambour, which would soon become The Stalwart Brewing Co. Alehouse and Brewery.

Mr Tomlinson said he hoped to have the new venue opened by mid-May, and he said it was council's recent special entertainment precinct zoning of Nambour CBD, which had been the catalyst for his new venture.

"It would've been impossible to do it without that," he said.

Mr Tomlinson said he would continue to brew at Sunshine Coast Brewery to begin with, while he waited for council approval to establish an on-site brewery.

He hoped his new business would help improve the CBD and draw more people back.

He said he would have a range of ales on offer, with a core group of about six beers on tap, as well as a number of experimental varieties, while there could be a number of Sunshine Coast Brewery drops among the 12 total taps.

Mr Tomlinson hoped to also do his first run of cans in the near future and have a takeaway option for customers, and was aiming to brew up to 20 kegs a week on-site once operational.

"The joy and the passion led to this," he said.

He said the venue was likely to operate Wednesday-Sunday, and he expected to have about 2-3 staff, depending on the scale of the kitchen operation, as he intended to offer quality food pairings to go with the handcrafted beers.

Mr Tomlinson was also eager to do justice to a venue with such rich history in the town.

"Obviously it's sacred to Nambour," he said.

"Hopefully it creates some good interest (in the town)."
