A Coast entrepreneur has taken away the anxiety from germophobes and created a world-first reusable, dish washable handle fit for any supermarket trolley or basket.

Karen Lindsay has responded to the global need for reducing germ transference by creating the Luv Handle.

It’s a handle made from recycled plastic that can fit any supermarket, luggage or medical trolley.

The idea came to Ms Lindsay when she went on a regular shopping run to the grocer during lockdown.

“I went to grab a trolley but it didn’t feel safe,” she said.

“I had my sanitiser and there were trolley wipes available, but I know wipes aren’t great for the environment and using one still wouldn’t fill me with confidence.

“I wanted something safe to hold onto, something that I knew was clean and others with less stringent hygiene practices hadn’t touched.”

The patented product comes in a standard form for most supermarket trolleys and baskets and a two-piece telescopic handle to use on things like luggage, bags and transit trolleys.

It is easy to carry and wash.

“You can just pop it in the dishwasher after your shop, then dry it off and keep it with your reusable shopping bags ready to go for next time,” Ms Lindsay said.

The was launched on Thursday, September 10 at Whites IGA supermarkets across the region.

It will soon roll out across the country.

“COVID-19 has brought hand hygiene to everyone’s attention this year, and alcohol hand sanitiser might as well be the scent of the season, but as much as we’ve all made a big effort to be more hygienic, I felt there was more to be done,” Ms Lindsay added.
