Coles has opened its new supermarket on Jones Rd at Buderim.

Customers started flowing through the doors from 7am at the Coast’s newest supermarket which has provided jobs for 130 people.

Coles Sunshine Coast regional manager Heath Grant said there were a few features in the Buderim store that had been included on the Coast for the first time.

They include the largest range of ready-made meals, a scoop and weigh option for dog food and freshly baked flatbread in the bakery.

“We’ve had really positive feedback so far which is great,” Mr Grant said.

He said there had been about 50 people queued when the Jones Rd store opened but a lot more came through as the weather improved.

He said staff were very conscious of social distancing regulations and someone was at the door with a counter to ensure a limit of 200 people in store at one time was not breached.

“It’s just to make sure everyone has got a reasonable amount of distance in store.”

Mr Grant said 65 of the 130 people employed at the supermarket were new to Coles and 55 of his team lived in Buderim.

Doors also opened from 9am at the neighbouring KFC, where a Colonel Sanders mascot was greeting customers.

Other stores to open included a patisserie, tobacconist, bottle shop and pharmacy.

There are two shopfronts advertised for lease and construction work is ongoing in other shopfronts.
