Hastings St, Noosa restaurant Cafe Le Monde approved for upgrade

Lush landscaping and timber features are on the cards as owners of a popular Hastings St venue move forward with a transformation of its outdoor area.

Cafe Le Monde owners Ryan and Johanna Taylor have revealed plans for a lavish upgrade to embrace outdoor dining at its busy prime Noosa location.

Cafe Le Monde has gained Noosa Council approval for a tropical transformation with big changes to come to the front of the cafe, restaurant and nightclub.

The popular cafe has operated at the 52 Hastings St since the early 2000s and is owned by the Peregian Beach couple.

The project was granted council approval in December.

“The works provide for a rejuvenation of the street frontage and incorporate design elements that provide for street activation, emphasise a casual outdoor lifestyle, and contribute to the vibrancy of Hastings Street,” the development application lodged with the council said.

“Extensive landscaping is proposed which will assist to integrate the built form with the subtropical coastal setting.”

It would feature mid-dark stained timber framing, plenty of landscaping and an open-air pergola with garden-covered roofs.

The application said the landscaping would provide a positive streetscape character different to what is seen elsewhere on Hastings Street.

“Landscaped setbacks to the Hastings Street frontage varies along the street with some sites having no soft landscaping while others have retained character trees in small garden beds,” it said.

The company has until December 2027 to complete the work under the current approval.

It comes as the tourist hotspot is recovering from the economic impact of Covid-19 and preparing for a bumper Christmas holidays.
