A global technology firm has won a contract to manage how people get in and out of Brisbane Rd carpark, but there is no word yet on how much drivers will pay to use it.

Skidata, which is based in Austria but has offices around the world, will be responsible for a smart parking system at the Mooloolaba site which will include electronic signage to direct motorists to available spaces.

The company's website says it has more than 10,000 installations in more than 100 countries that enable fast and secure access of people and vehicles to ski resorts, stadiums, airports, shopping centres, cities, spa and wellness facilities, trade fairs and amusement parks.

A Sunshine Coast Council spokeswoman said no Sunshine Coast firms applied for the management contract, which went out to tender earlier this year.

She said what price motorists would pay to use the carpark was yet to be considered by the council.

"No personal information is recorded on the system database," the spokeswoman said.

"Licence plate numbers, times and dates of entry and exit and the accounting records of collected parking fees are the only information collected for the ease of entering and exiting the car park without a ticket, and for no other purpose."

She did not answer the Daily's questions on what the value of the contract, which was awarded on July 22, or whether Skidata managed any other Sunshine Coast Council assets.

The carpark is scheduled to be ready for use by the end of the year.
