A popular hinterland tavern has closed its doors after it was bought by a well-known Sunshine Coast family.

The Glass House Mountains Tavern has been closed for the past few weeks but will come back to life later this year after a revamp.

Publicans Rick and Keri Gazzard purchased the watering hole on Reed Street on May 14.

Bayblue Management Pty Ltd marketing manager Cassie Orreal said the owners of the Beerwah Hotel and Palmwoods Hotel were pleased to announce the purchase.

"The owner just wanted to expand and do something a little bit different," she said.

"It's a beautiful little pub out there and it's just not been given the chance to run to its full potential.

"It's such a tourist destination, the Glass House Mountains, so why not take the opportunity to snap up a pub when you can."

The announcement has gone over well on social media with an outpouring of support for the new owners.

"Everyone is really excited, it had been a bit of a rumour for a couple of weeks prior," Ms Orreal said.

"There's been a lot of people asking what's going to happen and what's going to change.

"People are trying to book in already and we don't even know when we're going to open."

As for future plans, the Gazzard's are keeping the mystery going, for now.

It will be their third pub in the region.

The duo purchased the Beerwah Hotel back in April 2005, working tirelessly to deliver an establishment that provides quality entertainment, great food and a friendly atmosphere.

They have also been at the helm of the Palmwoods Hotel for about 16 years.

The tavern will remain closed with an opening date expected later this year.
