Two Sunshine Coast besties and fitness gurus are preparing to launch their first pilates and yoga studio, the second of its kind in Queensland.

Elly Davison, 30, and Eyrlie Wass, 34, met when they were working at the same gym in Victoria in 2016, and have been friends ever since.

Ms Davison was working as a personal trainer at the time while Ms Wass was working as a pilates instructor.

Now, the duo are preparing to launch CorePlus Kawana, a pilates and yoga studio in Birtinya.

CorePlus is a Victorian based franchise with more than 25 studios across Queensland and Victoria. The Birtinya studio is the second of its kind in Queensland and the first on the Sunshine Coast.

Ms Davison said the idea to create her own studio came after she took one class at CorePlus in Fitzroy while she was visiting Melbourne, and instantly fell in love with the gym.

“We loved everything about the brand, the vision, the inclusivity,” she said.

Before she knew it, she was filling out expression of interest forms and herself and Ms Wass were having meetings about joining the franchise.

Ms Davison and Ms Wass said CorePlus had an ethos of “movement to feel good” rather than look good, and prioritised the community and the way its members felt over how they physically looked.

Ms Davison said she and Ms Wass had always planned to open their own studio, but felt joining CorePlus allowed them to dream bigger, more quickly.

The Birtinya studio will include two rooms, one of which is a heated mat studio, and offers hot mat pilates, hot strength and hot strength cardio classes, as well as hot flow yoga, warm slow flow and warm yin yoga. The second room features four reformer pilates classes including athletic, strength, cardio strength and pre and post natal.

Ms Davison and Ms Wass said hot mat pilates in particular was the most popular type of class at CorePlus and is on the rise. It is also not widely offered on the Coast.

An official opening date for the studio is yet to be set, but Ms Wass and Ms Davison said it is expected to open in mid-to-late May and an official date will be released four weeks prior to the opening day.
