Construction has started on a $30 million new Spotlight store and retail development on the fringe of the new Maroochydore city centre.

Builder McNab has erected fencing and laid a slab for an entrance to a 6000sq m block on the opposite side of Dalton Dr to Officeworks and Bunnings in Maroochydore.

The land is a part of the new CBD development being managed by SunCentral.

Spotlight Group executive deputy chairman Zac Fried said in August he expected the new store would be ready for opening by the end of next year.

The Daily has reached out to Mr Fried for comment.
