One of the Sunshine Coast’s largest industrial estates is paving the way for more than 40 new industrial sites next year following a flood of businesses wanting to snatch up commercial space in the region.

Economic Development Queensland announced it will be selling 41 new industrial lots at the Sunshine Coast Industrial Park in Caloundra late next year as part of stage two of the park’s development.

Caloundra has been at the centre of major business activity in the past two months, with a property goldmine being sold for $14.1m, and a $27m apartment complex planned for Kings Beach.

Stage two will release about 30ha of developed land, creating 41 industrial lots, ranging in size from 4000sq m to 1.4ha.

Economic Development Queensland acting general manager Glenn Ziernik said he was releasing the new land to boost the economy, after receiving strong interest for industrial land in Caloundra.

“This fast-growing regional city is an attractive location for companies setting up shop or looking for a new home to build up their business,” he said.

The government body said one-third of 400-plus business queries about industrial estates in Queensland were for sites in Caloundra, Coolum, and Yandina in the 12 months to December 1.

Businesses in transport, warehousing and manufacturing have looked at calling stage two of the park home.

Mr Ziernik expected the new land to create 100 jobs during the construction of site works, and up to 1390 ongoing jobs after new companies move in.

Ray White Commercial Northern Corridor principal Michael Shadforth said there has been a shortage of industrial land since mid-last year following an “enormous” spike in people moving to the area in the past three years, snapping up land.

Mr Shadforth said this created demand for industrial land, and because businesses were starting to focus on online, add warehouses, and move to attractive areas, such as the Sunshine Coast.

“We’re an attractive place to work,” he said, adding that the region had a collaborative, entrepreneurial spirit.

Mr Shadforth said business industries eyeing industrial land in the region included construction, food manufacturers, and recreational vehicle manufacturers, saying the latter has been a “massive growth industry”.

He said online and sporting brands, such as gyms or dance studios, were also seeking industrial property.
