DEVELOPERS of a $32 million aged care facility say environmental sustainability will be a key feature of their Coast project when it opens.

Churches of Christ Queensland executive director of services Bryan Mason said design and construction of 96-bed home at Little Mountain had a number of measurable sustainability outcomes.

A publicly accessible 25m lap pool and a community centre will be other features of the development when it opens across the road from Meridan State College in February next year.

"We have taken an environmentally friendly approach to the whole construction but more than this, we have emphasised community collaboration, local employment and public and active transport options,” Mr Mason said.

"It's a far-reaching vision to develop a cohesive, flourishing community.”

He said solar panels would reduce electricity consumption by 10 per cent, saving between $15,000 and $25,000 in costs annually.

Up to 85 per cent of water heating electricity requirements are also expected to be generated by the sun.

Mr Mason said energy-saving air-conditioning systems and the re-use or recycling of all construction waste also added to the project's green credentials.

He said services at the site would employ more than 100 people when fully operational.
