A former tailor who started spinning dough in the backyard and forged a wood-fired pizza food truck is weeks away from opening a takeaway shop at Coolum.

It’s been two years since Dan Muscat and his wife Starzy jumped into the hospitality industry and unveiled Amore Pizza Co.

After booming success with the food truck business, Amore Pizza Co will soon move into a shop at Birtwell Street, Coolum to begin trading in December.

Mr Muscat said it had taken them 12 months of searching to find the perfect place to serve the masses.

“Coolum is where we live and where most of our target audience is. We are so glad and so excited to open,” Mr Muscat said.

“Amore means love in Italian and the public have been really supportive since we started.

“We are so excited to plant our feet in Coolum.”

The couple and their children Harper, 8, and Ashton, 7, moved to the Sunshine Coast three years ago from Canberra.

Mr Muscat had worked in a menswear store for 20 years and had always treated making pizzas as a hobby.

“I’d make these hand-stretched pizzas in the backyard and my friends kept telling us how awesome they were,” he said.

“Basically I wanted a new career and I catered to a birthday party where I did about 30-40 pizzas and it opened my eyes.

“The idea went off in my head and Amore started. I have made thousands of pizzas and love every one.”

Mr Muscat said Amore’s menu would incorporate traditional Italian pizzas and ones with his own twist.

After opening the food truck during the pandemic, Mr Muscat said his loyal staff - Connor Aubin, Claudio Nespoli, Jordan Faris, Ezra Coyle and Saatchi Smith - had been pivotal to the success of the business.

He said the venture would hire more staff when it opens on the first weekend of December.
