A purple Nissan Patrol towing a caravan jackknifed on the Bruce Highway in rainy conditions on Sunday afternoon, causing congestion for northbound motorists.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Woombye after receiving reports of a crash on the M1 about 1.50pm.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said two adults and two children were in the vehicle, but all appeared to be uninjured.

A photo shared on social media showed traffic backed up in the area after the crash was reported on Facebook.

A police spokesman said as of 4pm on Monday afternoon both lanes of the highway were open and the traffic was moving.

The incident follows heavy rainfall across the region due to ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, which has led to flooding and hazardous driving conditions.
