Maroochydore Swans rugby union player Lachlan Moffat is promoting body positivity as he vies for the coveted title of ‘Australia’s Most Ordinary Rig’.
The 26-year-old is well on his way to glory after being named as a Top 10 finalist in the Budgy Smuggler competition.
Moffat, an ex-paramedic and student pharmacist, is hoping to go one better than his older brother James Lester, 34, who made it to the 2016 finals.
The self proclaimed former “70kg, six packed-rugby star” said he enjoyed the competition so far.
“Since James came 11th in a 10-horse race, I’ve been training for the 2022 series by putting in an application, getting short-listed from 200 to 20 and now making the top 10,” Moffat said.
“From there I put together a 60-second video of my road to ordinary before we head down to the finals in Sydney on October 29.
“It’s a bit like a Victoria’s Secret runway meets Australian blokes, as we’ve created our own angel wings and have to show our own special talent, which mine is eating a happy meal in under 60 seconds.”

Lester said it was a good cause and competition to support.
“It’s a little-known fact that 30 per cent of people with eating disorders are male, so Budgy Smuggler wanted to push that everybody, whether you're Liam Hemsworth or look like Lachlan and I, you have value and should be proud in your skin,” he said.
“It’s about being ordinary. An average bloke that can still run to catch a bus, play with your kids and things like that, but you don’t have to look chiselled to feel good about yourself.”
Former Maroochydore Swans player Reynor Guildford has also made the top 10.
The pair hope to follow in the footsteps of Mooloolaba resident Nathan ‘Burner’ Byrne who was runner-up in the 2016 competition and the 2018 ashes series.
If victorious, Moffat’s winning rig will be displayed on a billboard and he has agreed to donate $5000 to the Maroochydore Swans junior rugby union club.
“I’m quietly confident. All I’ve got to do is go better than James really, and I’ll be happy,” he said.
“But to get the glory of being Australia’s most ordinary rig is the ultimate goal.”
