THE Sunshine Coast hinterland can today boast ownership of another world record - a crazy one at that.

Thirty women swarmed to Maleny Dairies for the somewhat bizarre purpose of trashing their wedding dresses - to raise money for charity, of course.

Festivities included sliding down a 70m waterslide, egg and spoon races, feeding baby goats and calves, posing for photographs on hay bales and farm equipment, and lounging about in a some what muddy water hole.

"It was such a hot day - everyone was hot and sticky - and the water was cool so it was quite a reprieve from the heat," Suzie Erdbrink, of Maleny Dairies, said.

One of the brides, Krystyna Prisk, celebrated her 39th wedding anniversary on Saturday and then trashed her original wedding dress yesterday.

"It's soaking in the bath tub, a light shade of brown," she said with a laugh yesterday afternoon.

She admitted that her dress, which her mother had made, had sat in the bottom of the cupboard ever since the day after her wedding. She decided to get involved in the day to have fun and help raise money for a good cause.

"I don't think it'll ever be white again, but it won't matter because it was going to sit in the bottom drawer anyway," she said.

"I had such a good time."

The family run business had been warned that the event may be gatecrashed by the vegan warriors group, protesting the poor treatment of animals.

"We had no idea why they were targeting our dairy because we're just a family business having some fun," Ms Erdbrink said.

The unusual event has been recognised by Wild World Records, based at Glasshouse. Guinness World Records had the more stringent requirement that the brides be wearing only their original dress, and each needed to provide photographic evidence from their wedding day.

The total money raised at the event for the Sunny Kids charity, which helps disadvantaged children and young people, is yet to be calculated, but is expected to be more than $1000.
