A Sunshine Coast teenager has died after a car driven by a 15-year-old crashed on the Bruce Highway just south of Gympie at 3am today.

A Sunshine Coast teenager has died after a car driven by a 15-year-old crashed on the Bruce Highway just south of Gympie overnight.
Police said the tragedy happened at 3am when the car containing five male teenagers from Bli Bli lost control and crashed at Kybong.
Two boys were trapped and had to be cut free by the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service. The deceased boy, 15, died at the scene.
The front seat passenger, 17, was airlifted to Royal Brisbane Hospital. The remaining two boys suffered minor injuries.
Police said the 15-year-old who died was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle.
The young driver of the car was taken to Nambour General Hospital in shock and was assisting police with inquiries.
Police said alcohol, speed and not wearing a seatbelt were suspected to be contributing factors in the crash.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
At Mackay, a man died this morning after his car was involved in a head-on collision with a utility at Bucasia.
Police responding to reports of hooning located the crash on the Mackay Bucasia Road at 12.30am. Both male drivers had to be cut from the vehicles with the assistance of the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service.
The male driver of the car was rushed to Mackay Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Initial investigations suggest that he was returning home at the time of the crash.
The male driver of the utility is in the Mackay Hospital with serious injuries. A sample of his blood has been taken for analysis after he provided an allegedly positive specimen of breath at the scene of the crash.
Initial investigations suggest that one of the vehicles may have crossed onto the incorrect side of the road.
