A new father and labourer told police he was “skitzed out” when he punched a man in the eye and stole his personal belongings, a court has heard.
Blade Roy Heinemann, now 21, was given 12 months’ prison suspended for two years after pleading guilty to robbery with personal violence in Maroochydore District Court on August 29, 2022.
Crown prosecutor Madalyn Olivero said it was 8.40pm on July 26, 2021, when the victim was waiting in the Sunshine Plaza carpark for his partner to finish work.
Ms Olivero said Heinemann was walking in the area with his partner in an “amped up state”, trying to calm down from methamphetamine cravings.
Heinemann was yelling while arguing with his partner which drew the attention of the victim.
The court heard Heinemann saw the victim looking at him and thought he was being judged and laughed at.
Heinemann walked up to the victim’s car and said “I’m going to cave your head in” before telling him to get out of the car.
He pulled open the car door and asked for money but the victim said he only had his phone on him.
Heinemann demanded, “give me all your s--t”, and then punched the victim to his eye.
“Fearing another punch, the complainant handed over his phone and wallet,” Ms Olivero told the court.
“The complainant suffered mild bruising and pain to his face.”
Police and the dog squad found Heinemann later in the evening and he later admitted to the incident, stating he wanted drugs and was “skitzed out”.
Heinemann said he had intended to sell the phone to fund his drug use.
The court heard Heinemann had a prejudicial upbringing with time spent in foster care and left school in Grade 8.
Heinemann’s new baby and supportive partner were offered by defence barrister Lachlan Ygoa-McKeown as positive influences in his client’s life.
“His primary motivation is to give his family the life he didn’t have as a child,” Mr Ygoa-McKeown said.
