THOMAS Clifford Eggeling's arrival was special.
His birth at 9.38am on Friday marked the completion of his family, after he joined his two older sisters, Mia, 5, Ruby, 3, and parents Steve and Kylie.
Thomas' birth was also a major milestone for the region's new $1.8 billion Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
Maternity services only started at the new hospital in Birtinya in March last year, but the birth of young Thomas marked the 5000th baby delivered at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
Mr Eggeling said Thomas' birth "definitely” completed their young family.
They moved up from Brisbane to Buderim two years ago.
Thomas was their first Coast-born child, as Mia and Ruby were both in Brisbane.
"We love it, the lifestyle up here's great,” he said.
Mr Eggeling said one of the midwives alerted them that Thomas was a milestone bub as she was filling out some paperwork after the birth.
"Everyone (at SCUH) looked after us,” Mr Eggeling said.
He said mum and bub were doing well and they'd hoped to head home on Saturday afternoon.
The only challenge now was to determine Thomas' sporting loyalties, as Steve was a Kiwi.
"I'm a massive All Blacks fan but he might have to end up playing for the Wallabies,” he said with a laugh.
Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service director of women's and families services Dr Marc Miller said the 5000th birth had marked a "special moment for staff”.
