Reports of the attack sparked more stories of violence in the precinct, with three men claiming they were also randomly attacked in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The men, who asked not to be fully identified with their attackers at large, said they’d left a nightclub on Ocean St about 2.15am Saturday, February 4, when they were set upon while walking along an alleyway on their way to calling an Uber.

Ryan, 23, Cameron, 24 and Mitch, 30, claim they were attacked from behind, with Ryan coward punched first.

“I was walking to the Uber... next thing I know, explosive pain to the back of my head,” Ryan said.

He said he came to in a pool of blood.

Cameron said he heard yelling just before the attack, but the names being yelled at them were strangers’ names and he suspected a case of mistaken identity had sparked the assault.

“Then they punched Ryan in the back of the head. That was just a straight-up proper coward punch,” he said.

He said his friend Mitch was struck in the side of the face, before he was able to turn around and try and fend off two of the attackers.

“I held them off as long as I could,” Cameron said.

After about 20-30 seconds Cameron said the three men got him to the ground and began punching him before one of them “soccer kicked” him in the head.

“We were lucky but the next person might not be so lucky.”

Ryan said he and Cameron were taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital by ambulance for CT scans and stitches and were kept overnight.
