A Sunshine Coast man alleged to have stabbed his father after an argument his pregnant partner has been refused bail.

Tewantin man Addison Mana Yendall, 20, faces one charge of grievous bodily harm – domestic violence offence and had his bid for bail heard in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Defence solicitor Luke Bull told the court Mr Yendall is alleged to have stabbed his 46-year-old father on January 8 during an argument at the 20-year-old’s house in Tewantin.

“The dad has challenged my client to fight, the dad is 46-years-old and has essentially asked his son who is 20-years-old to go out onto the footpath and have a fight,” Mr Bull said.

Mr Bull also told the court witnesses saw Mr Yendall’s father “slap” his son’s head to the ground.

“After having his head slapped on the concrete ground, he is alleged to have gone inside and grabbed a knife,” Mr Bull said.

The alleged stabbing occurred while Mr Yendall was on a return to prison warrant.

Prosecutor Erica Zammit told the court the fight between the man and his father was triggered when the alleged victim intervened in a violent argument between Mr Yendall and his pregnant partner.

Neither Mr Yendall nor the partner have been charged in relation to the argument.

Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist ordered Mr Yendall be remanded in custody and described his actions as “disproportionate”, adding he posed a significant risk if he was to be released.

“The escalation by the defendant when he goes into the house and grabs a knife and comes back and stabs his father … that is so disproportionate,” Magistrate Stjernqvist said.

Mr Yendall did not appear in the courtroom on Thursday and is yet to enter a plea to the charge.

He is scheduled to appear for a committal hearing on April 21.
