Loved ones have gathered on the Sunshine Coast to honour the life of a “cheeky” and “kind” man who died after allegedly being struck by a car in Woombye.

Currimundi apprentice diesel fitter Aaron Pitt, 25, was working alongside his colleague Lleyton Bartlett, of Baringa, to repair a broken down bus when they were both allegedly hit and killed late last month.

The death of the two young men on April 21, 2022 rocked the Sunshine Coast community, with heartfelt tributes from their family and friends being shared online and GoFundMe campaigns launched for both CDC employees.

A large funeral was held for Mr Pitt at Gregson and Weight Caloundra on Friday afternoon which was described as a celebration of the 25-year-old’s “short but good” life.

The eulogy was read aloud by the funeral celebrant who spoke of Mr Pitt’s younger years spent in the water with his sister and how he adored playing with trucks, motorbikes and cars.

“He was a beautiful, chubby boy who loved his food,” the celebrant said on behalf of Mr Pitt’s family.

As he grew, so too did his fascination and enthusiasm for the mechanics of motor vehicles.

He would work on his first car, a Ford Falcon, every weekend and would service it himself regularly.

Mr Pitt was working as an apprentice diesel fitter for CDC and had just been awarded apprentice of the year a few weeks prior to his passing.

He loved going to the gym, going on bike rides and climbing local mountains around the Coast.

“He was doing so much with his life and really living life well and that has been a comfort for us knowing he was so happy,” the eulogy read.

“We should all live like Aaron did, making the most of every minute, doing the things that give us joy, being with people we love and relishing every moment of every day.”

One of Aaron’s closest friends of 13 years Jake MacNamara had his tribute read during the service, remembering the fun times they shared over the years.

“When I first heard the news I was in total disbelief,” Mr MacNamara said.

“What constantly ran through my mind was all the good times that me and Aaron had together, from house parties back in the day to now when we were at the beach or somewhere drinking and having random chats that I will never forget.”

Mr MacNamara said Aaron was “one of the good guys” and was a loyal friend that was always ready to help out.
