A tour through the largest home ever built in Qld ...

By KATHY SUNDSTROM ITS already cost $20 million to build and employed 200 people, but the future of Buderims mega mansion is in limbo as neighbours court fight for its demolition was postponed this week.

But more interesting than the looming court saga with four mostly retired residents putting up $60,000 to fight American-born multi-millionaire Ron Miller, developer Kate Dillon, a building certifier and Maroochy Council is the mammoth home itself.

For the first time, developer Kate Dillon provided the Daily with insight into what Queenslands biggest home ever has inside and the quiet, shy, sports mad, computer genius who has built a home for two people big enough to house 40.

Rumours have abounded ever since Mr Miller bought Ms Dillons first average millionaire home in Riverview Avenue the day it went on the market for list price a record for Buderim at $2.4 million.

That home increased the value of all the other homes in the area as I bought the house originally for $500,000 and the other homes are only worth about $700,000, but with the home selling for $2.4 million the value of all the properties has increased, Ms Dillon said.

Not only did Mr Miller buy Ms Dillons home, he bought the neighbours home too, for $250,000 more than its value.

And he gave Ms Dillon a blank cheque to demolish the new purchase and design him an extension to the home that would rival anything the Sunshine Coast, even Queensland has ever seen.

The neighbours were happy to accept their new wealthy neighbour, until he began drilling into the ground to build what they believe is a concrete-reinforced nuclear bunker built into the bedrock of Buderim hill.

As the home extension grew above ground big enough to the size of 14 two-bedroom apartment block, so did the neighbours anger that Maroochy Council could allow such a development to occur in a small quiet residential neighbourhood.

Four of the neighbours have put up the money and were expecting to fight it out in the Planning and Environment Court this week, but the court case was postponed till November 25 to give the parties more time to prepare.

Speculation over what Mr Miller does for a living has been rife some have said he is related to Bill Gates, others that he works in the American casinos and others still that he is linked to Hollywood.

But Ms Dillon said Mr Miller was nothing more than a fifty-something American-born Australian who writes computer programs and happened to write one that struck gold.

He wrote a very successful computer program, thats all there is to it.

He is just your normal average bloke who made money.

Mr Dillon has built the massive home simply so he and his American wife can enjoy their own privacy.
