A major Queensland asphalt and labour-hire company has collapsed owing more than $2m to creditors

A Sunshine Coast asphalt and labour-hire company, which completed major projects across the country, has collapsed owing more than $2m to creditors, documents have revealed.

A Sunshine Coast asphalt and labour-hire company has brought in liquidators after accumulating more than $2m in debts, including unpaid wages and more than $800,000 owing to the Australian Taxation Office.

Richmond Contractors Pty Ltd, appointed liquidator David Stimpson on May 29, 2024 to complete a voluntary winding up of the company after a meeting was held with creditors.

The contracting company was directed by Rosemount man, Zachary Richmond, Australian Securities and Investments Commission documents state, who started trading in March 2021.

Earlier this month Mr Stimpson published documents to ASIC which showed the company is estimated to owe creditors a total of $2,022,621 in debts.

Creditors with the largest estimated debts include Caterpillar Financial Australia Limited owed $726,045, as well as the Australian Taxation Office with a debt of approximately $863,619.

According to the ASIC documents approximately $44,391 of the debt owed by Richmond Contractors is in unpaid wages.

The Richmond Contractors website states the company was regularly employed by government agencies and local councils to complete large projects including regional airport runway extensions.

“Richmond Contractors are specialists in airport work and are a preferred contractor for government projects,” the website stated.

“Our crew members have experience working on numerous large airport projects including the new Sunshine Coast Airport expansion and Darwin Airport.

“We are also vetted and experienced working in Defence Forces Bases.”

Both Mr Richmond and Mr Stimpson have been contacted by this publication for comment.
