Work is starting on a unique design for the interior of the Sunshine Coast Council’s $59 million chambers at Maroochydore.

A $279,5000 contract was awarded earlier this month to Cottee Parker for the fit out design of the future council chambers at the new Maroochydore City Centre.

Construction firm McNab turned the first sod for the 10-storey building in August, which once completed in 2022 will be the headquarters for 600 council staff.

In August, Mayor Mark Jamieson said it would be a landmark building for the city centre and encourage future development in the area.

Cottee Parker previously completed the design of the building.

“In addition to a highly competitive pricing structure, Cottee Parker offers capability and expertise including national and local experience and a professional design team with strong credentials and a proven track record to work on this significant project,” a council spokesman said.

The award-winning firm was behind the interior design of Youi’s Sippy Downs headquarters.

It was one of five companies to tender for the city hall contract.

The spokesman said the fit out design would complement the building design.

“This is a first step towards mapping out the requirements for the future fit out,” the spokesman said.

“The fit out will align with council’s ongoing commitment to its targets for accreditation for the building – 5 star Green Star and 5 star NABERS and requirements to meet these targets will flow through to the planning for the fit out.”

“The fit out for City Hall will be unique to the Sunshine Coast context and will respond to the needs of this region and the organisation, while taking lessons from other comparable fit outs.”

The tender for the fit out for the building is expected to be released next year.

Sunshine Coast Council has spent $5.3 million on the new city hall project to date.
