10 active cases of Covid-19 being treated at Sunshine Coast University Hospital

More than a third of Queensland’s active cases of Covid-19 are being managed out of Sunshine Coast University Hospital, however, Queensland Health say there’s no risk to community.

Queensland records two new COVID-19 cases

More than a third of Queensland’s active cases of Covid-19 are being managed out of Sunshine Coast University Hospital, new health records have shown.

The Sunshine Coast has 10 active cases, all being treated at the region’s largest hospital at Bokarina, according to Queensland Health’s website.

The website showed there were 26 active cases of Covid-19 statewide, as of midday on Monday, September 13.

It showed Sunshine Coast University Hospital was treating the most Covid-19 cases in the state, above the Gold Coast and Met North (both on five active cases).

In response to questions about why the hospital was treating 10 active cases, a Queensland Health spokeswoman said it was a designated Covid-19 hospital which cared for patients from throughout the state.

The spokeswoman said the hospital adhered to strict protocols and all chief health officer and national guidelines.

She said the 10 active cases posed no risk to the community.

For patient confidentiality, the spokeswoman did not comment about what strain of the virus was being treated at the hospital.

It comes after Queensland recorded two cases of community Covid-19, both students from St Thomas More College at Sunnybank in Brisbane.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the students – a 15-year-old boy and girl from different households – had been in home quarantine, and were considered “low risk”.
