Guests staying at a Sunshine Coast resort were ordered to leave their rooms in the middle of the night so a wing could house quarantining travellers.

A woman holidaying at Oaks Resort at Caloundra said she was told to relocate after passengers who flew into Brisbane were transported to the Coast.

Leonie, who asked her surname be omitted, said she answered her resort room door late on Thursday.

“I was in the shower and police knocked on the door to say our block was being requisitioned,” Leonie said.

“We had half-an-hour to get out of our room and into another block.”

A Queensland police spokeswoman said increased demand for accommodation meant the returned travellers were taken north.

Guests at Oaks Caloundra were moved between blocks late on Thursday night.
Guests at Oaks Caloundra were moved between blocks late on Thursday night.

“In order to ensure the safety of all guests, a wing of the hotel was reserved to accommodate the new arrivals,” the spokeswoman said.

“Guests already located within this wing of the hotel were relocated to suitable accommodation on site.”

Police did not specify where the travellers had come from or whether it was just one flight.

Leonie said police and staff at the hotel were vague on the details of the incoming guests.

“I think people in Caloundra need to know about this because it’s in the public interest,” she said.

Leonie said the interruption had spoiled part of her holiday and she had been partially compensated by the resort.

A spokeswoman for Oaks said impacted guests were contacted by hotel staff before 10:30pm and asked whether they would like to upgrade rooms to an alternative building that night or to remain where they were until the next morning.

She said all guests opted to move.

“They were also compensated for their inconvenience,” the spokeswoman said.

The impacted building at the resort has been locked down by police and Queensland Health.

Oaks confirmed there were no positive cases at the resort.
