A Queensland airport has been forced to close its runway after damage was discovered on Tuesday morning.
Authorities at the Sunshine Coast Airport issued an emergency alert for pilots and aviation operators, warning that the runway was closed to repair damage caused by a sinkhole.
The airport has confirmed that it has since reopened the runway after emergency works were undertaken.
“Sunshine Coast Airport is aware of a small fault in the pavement on the shoulder of the northern end of Runway 13/31 which has since been repaired,” an airport spokeswoman said.
“The area is away from where aircraft take off and land; no passenger or emergency flights were impacted.”
The airport has confirmed that all flights will continue as scheduled.
