A number of large animal statues have been taken from a Brisbane church garden dedicated to the Patron Saint of Animals.
Brisbane resident Martine Robert Hurd took to social media in search of three statues, a one metre tall concrete kangaroo, a turtle and a pig, after they went missing from the Little Flower Church at Kedron in the city’s north mid-last week.
“I happened to speak to Father Mario (Debattista) this morning and he mentioned that three concrete animal statues were taken just before Australia Day,” she wrote.
“A 1m-high fleshy coloured kangaroo (this was originally from his mother’s garden who has departed) so you can imagine how sad he must feel.”
Ms Hurd said the collection of animals were slowly building under the tree as a nod to St Francis.
“If anyone has seen these statues or perhaps has them, could you please put them back at night when no one is any the wiser,” she wrote.
“They are there for the children and to build community spirit.”
