Your say: Premier’s GP plan like an episode of ‘I Dream of Genie’

Premier Steven Miles’ unprecedented election pledge to open 50 bulk-billing GP clinics has not gone down well among Courier-Mail readers with many slamming it as completely unrealistic.

Premier Steven Miles has pledged $365m to open 50 bulk-billing GP clinics in an unprecedented election plan aimed at easing cost of living and pressure on the state’s health system.

If Labor wins the October poll Queensland would pay for the clinics, which are usually a Commonwealth responsibility.

The Courier-Mail’s exclusive story attracted hundreds of comments.

Here’s what you had to say on the pledge.

With what GPs?

Michelle

Where are the GPs coming from to staff them? Or will they be run by nurses and pharmacists pretending to be doctors? A bit like the fake Satellite Hospitals …

Ray F

There is already a huge shortage of doctors and nurses, just where is this new lot coming from.

Martin

How is this going to help regional Queensland where you can’t even get doctors.

Cheryl

Is he going to knit the doctors to work in these “clinics”?

Holy Trinity

Reminds me of ‘I Dream of Genie’ He’ll rub the magic lamp and all this money and doctors appear!

Joh

Completely unrealistic. Many skilled medical professionals avoid working in the public health system because it’s in such disarray. And now, instead of fixing it, Miles is setting up another idealistic venture that likely won’t have the staff to run it.

Rodney

Doctors cannot survive now on the bulk bill rebate, that is why they are now charging extra for a visit. Where is he going to get doctors who are willing to live off Medicare rebate only.

Too little, too late

Bystander

More costly and stupid thought bubbles that will never happen. Early voting opens next week and I can’t wait to get there

Tony

Another thought bubble that will go up in smoke. A large part of the primary health problem is the lack of medical graduates entering general practice. This plan does nothing to address that fundamental issue.

Undertaker

This impostor of a Premier has had nine years to do all these promises but all he did was waste $500,000 taxpayers money to change the name of a hospital.

Jamie

Giggles and Co. Petroleum, Giggles and Co. Energy, and Giggles and Co. Healthcare. All that mining money is clearly being diverted to Giggles and Co. World Enterprises!

G1

Dr Giggles is getting into the swing in promising the Sun and the Moon. By the time of the election, I expect him to offer free beer.

Graham

Giggles is desperate - all these promises now when they have been in power for 14 years – why not sooner.

More details, please

Anonymous

Good promise, but back it up with details on where they will be, what date will they open and if they don’t meet the deadline, will he call an early election, stop with the spin.
