Premier Steven Miles and Opposition Leader David Crisafulli will face off for the final leaders’ debate at the Sky News/The Courier-Mail People’s Forum this week.
Sky News Australia chief news anchor Kieran Gilbert will host the one-hour forum on Tuesday at 6.30pm (Queensland time), live from Brisbane.
The People’s Forum will provide undecided voters, as selected by YouGov, with the opportunity to put questions directly to the two leaders on their vision for the state as Queenslanders prepare to head to the polls.
Courier-Mail editor Chris Jones said: “We have made real Queenslanders the centrepiece of our campaign coverage, with our voter panel giving their regular verdicts and our reporters asking reader questions of the leaders every day.
“The People’s Forum will build on this success, as the only time the leaders face real voters – rather than those carefully chosen by their professional advancers.
“These unscripted moments are usually the best of the campaign, and seeing the leaders having to answer to the concerns of actual undecided voters is always fun and insightful.”
Labor has won 11 of the last 12 Queensland elections, but that dominance of state politics will be tested at Saturday’s election.
Gilbert added: “This debate is the final campaign flashpoint, the final chance for both sides to make their case to the people of Queensland, and the final face-to-face leaders’ clash.
“The beauty of the Sky News/The Courier-Mail People’s Forum is that the two leaders are also face-to-face with a room full of undecided voters.
“The voters can ask questions about any issue they like.
“It’s unscripted and unpredictable which makes these debates such a challenge to navigate for leaders.”
Sky News Australia CEO Paul Whittaker said: “The People’s Forum is a pivotal moment in any election campaign, and has served as a core event in our federal and state election broadcast coverage since 2010.
“After weeks of campaigning, this final debate of the campaign will test the fortitude of both leaders as they compete under pressure to win the hearts and minds of undecided Queensland voters just days before they cast their ballot.”
