Ankle bracelets for serious domestic violence perpetrators

Serious domestic violence perpetrators will be required to wear ankle bracelets under an LNP government, with repeat offenders tracked by police 24/7.

Serious domestic violence perpetrators will be required to wear ankle bracelets under an LNP government, as Opposition Leader David Crisafulli doubles down on his commitment to reduce the number of crime victims.

The LNP’s latest crime pledge would see $18m spent on 500 GPS ankle monitors for repeat DFV offenders, who would be tracked by police 24/7 from a central surveillance hub.

Ankle braces would sound an alarm if the offender came too close to a victim’s workplace or home and police would contact the victim to alert them.

Mr Crisafulli said the trial, which has had success in Tasmania since 2021, would put the balance of power back in favour of DFV victims.

“It is working, some of the results from the Tassie trial has seen serious violent offences fall by 78 per cent,” he said.

“We want that for Queensland.”

The LNP Leader was joined by Federal Opposition Leader Peter Dutton in Brisbane on Friday where they announced an additional $4.5m to Beyond DV for three new Hope Hubs.
